We always need help planning our events. If you’d like to get involved, our next meeting is this Thursday, February 28 from 8:00 to 10:00. We’re taking things outdoors and congregating on the rooftop at Nirvana Grille to plan our upcoming Easter Egg Hunt and to start brainstorming for Parent’s Night Out. Even if you can’t help with the actual events, we’d love to hear your ideas.
Last week, we had a great time celebrating the Chinese New Year with our little dragons. They decorated snakes, made masks, ate potstickers and lychees with chopsticks, and even were patient enough to parade around the park in a pretty organized manner.
This weekend, come be part of “a first” for the Parents Club. We will be participating in a Laguna tradition: the annual Patriot’s Day Parade through downtown. Decorate your stroller or wagon in our nation’s colors; we’re also asking that adults wear white (if you’re still brave enough to buy white clothes), boys wear blue and girls don red. The parade starts at 11:00 and we’ll be meeting at the parking lot across from the high school at 10:45. If you’re new to Laguna or have never attended the parade, don’t let that stop you. Mamas, mark your calendars for Thursday, March 14. For our next Mom’s Night Out, we’ll be meeting at Dizz’s As Is in South Laguna from 7:00 to 9:00. One of the owners is undergoing treatment for cancer, so come support a Laguna institution while enjoying the company of other women. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day (it’s not too early to start celebrating), don’t forget to wear something green. (RSVP here: 6http://www.bigtent.com/group/calendar/event/76326589?trackback)
If you’ve been looking for a good book to read, pick up Julian Barnes’ Sense of an Ending. It’s a Man Booker Prize winner and less than 200 pages, so you still have time to read it before the March Book Club meeting. Come discuss the book over a glass of wine on Monday, March 11 at the Deck from 7:30 to 9:30. (RSVP here: http://www.bigtent.com/group/forum/message/76416000)
As every good parent knows, spring is a prime craft season. Rather than getting overwhelmed by sorting through hundreds of bunny or egg craft boards on Pinterest, instead join us for our Spring Craft Day at Alta Laguna Park on Tuesday, March 19. To accommodate school and nap schedules, we’ll be hosting one craft from 10:30 to 11:30 and another at 3:30 to 4:30. (RSVP here: http://www.bigtent.com/group/calendar/event/76272694?trackback)
Do you ever feel a sense of dread as dinnertime approaches? Come spend a couple of hours drinking a glass of wine and creating meals to feed your family for a week or more. The next meal prep at Laguna Culinary Arts is on Tuesday, March 12 from 7:00 to 9:00. You can make five entrees of four servings for $200 or 10 entrees of four servings for $250. The new menu includes salmon with black-eyed peas and dill, Moroccan chicken and baked ziti. (RSVP and view the full menu here: http://www.bigtent.com/group/calendar/event/75834179?trackback)
And now it’s time for a quick Big Tent tutorial. We know some of you are getting more e-mails than you would like. It’s very easy to adjust your settings. Log in and go to the “my bigtent” drop-down menu toward the top of the page. Choose “email settings”and the “My Email Options” page will appear. From there, you can change how often you receive e-mails regarding classifieds, general club announcements and any subgroups you belong to. You can choose to get e-mails daily, weekly or not at all.
Also, we love to support our fellow parents and their businesses or other ventures, but we are asking — ever so politely, of course — that members don’t use the classified section on Big Tent for self-promotion of any sort. The classified section is intended for posting items you might have for sale, such as strollers, or information about your nanny who now has afternoons available to help another family. If you have a question about what’s appropriate or how you can become a Parents Club sponsor, feel free to check in with Kat Gianesin.
Until next month ... Keep enjoying your family.
