May newsletter

First, we hope that all of you mamas reading this had a fabulous Mother’s Day. We had a great time hosting a Saturday craft at the park where kids painted flower pots and made bracelets and cards. Read on for information about the craft we have planned for the dads.

With longer days ahead and the kids out of school, June is the ideal month for spending more time with our families and friends. We have plenty of events on the calendar to help you do just that. If you would like to help with any of these activities, we would love to have you at our May monthly meeting to share your ideas or find out what you can do. Our meeting will be this Thursday, May 30 from 8:00 to 10:00 pm at a member’s house. Click here for information on the location: http://www.bigtent.com/home/calendar/event/78199507

In June, we’re holding one of our favorite events: Parent’s Night Out. This is your chance to chat with other parents without having to chase the little ones around. Our Susnet Soiree will take place on Saturday, June 22 from 6:00 to 8:30 at the beautiful Ritual Yoga Arts on PCH. We’ll be providing drinks and apps to enjoy while watching the second official sunset of summer. As long as you have a sitter, make plans to continue the party around town with other parents or enjoy some couple time out with your spouse. Please RSVP so that we know how many people to plan for: http://www.bigtent.com/home/calendar/event/78199507

We know one day isn’t enough to celebrate the dads, but we’re doing our best with a pretty great Father’s Day craft. Last year, the Boys & Girls Club staff helped the Parents Club kids make an adorable photo frame and even took pictures to include with the gift. Come see what they have planned for this year. We’ll be meeting on Thursday, June 13 from 11:00 to 1:00 at the Boys & Girls Club on Laguna Canyon Road. Let us know if you plan to attend so we can have enough materials and snacks on hand: http://www.bigtent.com/group/calendar/event/78190315?trackback

To keep your kids safe this summer as they spend more time at the pool and beach, we are offering our annual CPR certification class on Saturday, June 22 from 9:00 to 12:00 at the Boys & Girls Club on Laguna Canyon Road. This year, we have tailored the class to infant/child lifesaving techniques to reduce the time to 3 hours. We must have 10 RSVPs by June 8 in order to proceed with the class, so if you are interested in attending, please don’t wait to sign up: http://www.bigtent.com/home/calendar/event/78232975  Certification is $55 per person.

If you’re looking for something to read while traveling or at the beach, pick up the next Book Club selection, Strength in What Remains by Tracy Kidder. The Book Club will be meeting to discuss it on Monday, June 10 from 7:30 to 9:30 at The Deck at the Pacific Edge Hotel: http://www.bigtent.com/home/calendar/event/7679710

Finally, the Parents Club leadership team truly has loved serving you and your kids this past year. But now it’s time for a new group of moms and dads to bring their fresh perspectives and energy to the club. If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to get involved in the Laguna community and your children’s lives, this is a great way to do so. We are looking for a new president, vice president and secretary, as well as parents to handle the newsletter, sponsorships and social media. If you have an interest in contributing, please e-mail Kat at kegianesin@aol.com. Thank you in advance for helping keep this amazing resource for parents and kids going.

See you soon!
