We have wonderful news to report! The City Council approved the capital projects budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which included 250,000 for the Bluebird Park improvements we requested.
As you may recall, LBPC was working with the City to make improvements at Bluebird Park, which include a shade structure on the upper level playground and additional fencing around the area of the park adjacent to Bluebird Cyn Dr. to the East. There are additional steps that need to be taken before we physically see these improvements, but a quarter of a million dollars allocated to the project is definitely a step in the right direction. A very big thank you to those in the club that started this dialogue within the club, brought it forward to the City, and continued to follow it with the City. We should also note that the now Deputy City Manager, Ben Siegel, his staff, and the City's recreation department have been nothing but extremely helpful and supportive through this entire process. We are lucky to have these people working for our City and with us. We will continue to keep you informed.

Volunteer Opportunities
- Website Coordinator - This person will be tasked with helping us keep our public website up to date. The main focus of this position is assisting our sponsorship coordinator with updating the site with new sponsors graphics and text. The commitment is generally a once a month or once every other month commitment depending on how often we receive new sponsors. If you're interested and feeling ambitious, the position can be much more and include a more general update of the website
Exciting things are going on at the LBPC and we're so happy you're a part of it.

Learning Link Open House
If you weren't able to attend this super informative meeting, do not fret, here's what you need to know...
The LB school district is launching the Learning Link program this Fall for ages 2.5 - 5 years old. The Learning Link will be open Monday and Tuesday from 9:15 - 11:30 am (but you can arrive and leave at anytime during these hours and pick and choose what day you want to go or go both days.)
But was is it?
Learning Link is a hands-on program and an opportunity for children to learn new skills in preparation for kindergarten and helps prepare parents for their role as their children’s first teachers. Learning Link early learning center offers an interactive place for parents to bond with their child while supporting growth across a range of disciplines, including early education, language development, health and wellness, and family support.
In a nutshell is a learning resource center for children and parents. Julie Olsen, who runs the program, will be present to help the children and their parents through different stations and activities geared to the child's development needs and capabilities. The way I see it, it's like 5 free hours a week of preschool-type learning. FABULOUS, right?
The Learning Link is part of the school district bigger "School Readiness" program. Within this program, the district offers Ages and Stages assessment, which you can begin with your child as early at 5 months. Once your child is assessed, the district is happy to provide a reassessment every 6 months. The Ages and Stages assessment is provided by Julie and you perform it with your child and then report the results back to Julie who will then provide feedback. Terrific!
There was so much good information provided this night. Please contact Julie Olsen at 949-497-7700 x 5327 or jolsen@lagunabeachschools.org to get started with your Ages and Stages assessment or to find out more information about the Learning Link.
