We hope the first month of summer has brought your family some memorable beach days, outdoor music, dinners on the deck, fireworks and road trips. We know that a lot of you will be traveling throughout the summer, but we still have a great lineup of events planned, starting with a Mom’s Morning Paddle this Sunday, July 28 (and one for the dads on August 11). We look forward to seeing you at an event or around town soon.
We kicked off the summer with Parents Night Out at the beautiful Ritual Yoga Arts studio. A great group of parents — including many new faces — showed up to enjoy cocktails, wine, food, conversation and a classic Laguna Beach sunset. We had quite a bit of food left, which we donated to the Friendship Shelter in town. They were very grateful for the contribution.

If you’ve always wanted to try stand up paddle but just haven’t been able to make it out, don’t miss the Mom’s Paddle Morning this Sunday, July 28 from 8:45 to 10:15 at SUP Co (1103 South Coast Highway) in Laguna. Last year, we had an amazing morning complete with clear skies, a calm ocean and dolphin friends that followed us for most of the paddle. (Check out the pic below.) The cost will be $30 to $35 depending on the number of RSVPs. If you have your own board, join the paddle for free. We’ll end the morning with a Champagne toast. We’re also hosting a Dad’s Paddle Morning on August 11 at the same time. Guys, if you need some motivation, we’ll have a cold beer waiting for you. Please know that you don’t have to have any previous paddling experience and can sit on the board if you need to. This is just about having fun. RSVP as soon as possible so that we know how many people to plan for: http://www.bigtent.com/group/calendar/event/79223890?trackback

We’ll be hosting our biggest Mom’s Night Out of the year on August 15 from 7:00 to 11:00 at a historical home in Laguna Beach that was once used as the town’s playhouse starting in the 1920s (571 Graceland Drive). These nights are always a nice way to get to know other moms better without having to worry about whether our little ones are eating sand or going too fast on their scooters. Come enjoy drinks, music and a photo booth. We will provide a trunk full of props for the photo booth. Dress casually or use this as an opportunity to wear something fun that you haven’t pulled out of your closet in a while — maybe a wig, a fun necklace, an awesome pair of heels that you just look at longingly from time to time or a crazy dress that you bought on sale and have never worn (I hope I’m not the only person who has a lot of those). Basically, wear something that makes you happy. Please RSVP so we have plenty of food and drinks: http://www.bigtent.com/group/calendar/event/79105841?trackback
If you’re looking for something to read while on vacation this summer, pick up the next Book Club book: The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani. The meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 9 from 7:30 to 9:30 at The Deck at the Pacific Edge Hotel. Learn more about the book and RSVP here: http://www.bigtent.com/group/calendar/event/76797230?trackback
Save the date for our annual BBQ at Bluebird Park. This year we have it tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 6. We will be releasing more details shortly.
Don’t forget to check out our events calendar on Big Tent. Our new web director, Kathy Lajvardi, is doing a great job of keeping the site and our Facebook page up to date with “around town events” like the summer program at the library and the Bluebird Park summer concert schedule. Thank you, Kathy!
Keep enjoying your time with your family and friends this summer.
