September 2014

Get informed, inform us!

Have you checked out our new forum yet - Around Town and Beyond?  The goal of the forum is to create an easy go-to area where you can find out what's going on around town and beyond and also post great events you've found going on. Check it out and post to it. We think it will be a available resource as posting catches on. Check out October events here.

A VERY big thank you to all that participated in the Chili Cook-off and help get the event off the ground. And even bigger CONGRATULATIONS  to our 2014 Chili Cook-off winner, Loic Wynrocx-Thuler. You're chili was delicious. Scroll down for some photos of the event.

We have one of our most fun and certainly our largest event of the year on the horizon - The Annual Halloween Walk, Wednesday, Oct 22, 2014. Plans for this year's walk are well underway and the LBPC was buzzing with excitement at our September meeting.

In other news, LBPC is working with the City on some improvements at Bluebird Park, which include a shade structure on the upper level playground, additional signage to remind park users to close the gates, a speed bump on Cress near the main park entrance, and additional fences around the areas of the park that adjacent Bluebird Cyn Dr. to the East. We are excited to report that a dialogue with the City has begun and further discussion will take place at the Recreation Committee's October meeting. We will continue to keep you informed.

Check out some of our volunteer opportunities:
  • Sponsorship Coordinator
  • 2013  Playgroup Coordinator
  • Calendar Coordinator
  • Newsletter Coordinator
Some of those holding these positions are busy caring for new babies or soon will be and we REALLY would like to keep these programs alive. For other positions, it is just time for the torch to be passed.

A VERY BIG WELCOME to our new Families Helping Families Coordinator - Becky Didato and a VERY BIG THANK YOU to our out going coordinator  - Claudia Morris. You ladies are such an important piece of the LBPC family! Thank you!

Description:

SAVE THE DATE...OCT 22, 2014!The Laguna Beach Parents Club
invites you to the biggest and cutest event of the year, our annual Halloween Walk 2014. If you have not experienced our Halloween Parade down Forest Ave, get ready for a memorable, not to mention, cutest Halloween event you will have seen in a long time-maybe ever! Invite your friends and family to join you in the parade route to march with the little ones!

Mark your calendars ESPECIALLY for the time and date, one week and a half BEFORE Halloween, Wednesday October 22, at 4:30.

The Parade is a wonderful exchange between our kids/families/friends and the merchants of Forest Ave, as well as many of Laguna Beach's community organizations and institutions, such as, The Pacific Marine Mammal Center, The Laguna Beach Police Department, Waste Management and Bale Redimex Cement--just to name a few.

Again, for our third year, the
LBPD has agreed to aid us in the crossing of PCH and crosswalks thereafter to keep our little kiddies safe! We meet on the Ocean side of PCH at 4:30 SHARP. The parade route is as follows: Crossing PCH at Ocean Ave, we will then proceed down the left side of Forest Ave to Third St. continuing on to the Laguna Presbyterian Parking lot where a small party will take place, complete with snacks, music and our repeat guests, A real working cement truck, courtesy of Bale Redimix and a Waste Management trash truck for the kids to climb on.

Also we pair with a local charity every year donating simple items, the impact is incredible. Also, don't forget your Halloween bags, the merchants will have fun treats for the kids which are age appropriate, some candy, mostly toys.

Come one come all to a wonderful event full of joy, laughter and fun.

See all of you there!!

The Fun Times We've Had Over the Last Month:

Chili Cook Off

The Chili Cook Off was a great success this year.

CONGRATULATIONS  to our 2014 Chili Cook-off winner, Loic Wynrocx-Thuler, who received a gift basket of goodies from club sponosor, The Spice Merchant.

Many thanks to all the cooked chili and brought sides. We had a wonderful spread and it was cleared everyone enjoyed it - there was barely any chili left in anyone's crocks by the end of the event. I think we also did a pretty good job on the Keg.

We added entertainment this year, and it was quickly apparent that all the kids just loved seeing Ms. Brooke and all her instruments. Us parents also enjoyed having a moment to kick back and enjoy our Fridays while the kids were very much entertained.

We need your help!

Our parents club is 100% run by volunteers. It takes a lot of people to pull off our events, manage the calendar, monitor the website and keep everyone happy! Please join us at our monthly meetings to help keep with wonderful community organization thriving.

We VERY MUCH need help with the following:
  • Sponsorship Coordinator - This is a fun volunteer position that gives you the opportunity to meet local business owners who support our club. Duties include gathering and posting monthly "shout-outs" as well as gathering information from new sponsors, support for sponsorship sponsorship renewal
  • 2013  Playgroup Coordinator - If you have a 2013 kiddo and would like to coordinate please contact crcaligurl@gmail.com. This is a great way to meet other moms and give back to this wonderful network.
  • Calendar Coordinator - We are looking to fill the position of calendar coordinator.  This person will help keep the club members in "the know" about events going on in our community by posting their findings on our bigtent calendar. Huge thanks to the newly prego mama that has been carrying this torch!
  • Newsletter Coordinator- Looking to flex your writing skills instead of your coloring skills? Here's your opportunity.

Thank you to those folks who have recently stepped up to continue to make this club go 'round.

Don't Forget:

Meals for New Parents
We offer a free meal prepared by a local restaurant to any LBPC family bringing home a new baby. The family can choose from several menu options. The Club takes care of ordering the food, picking it up and delivering it to the families doorstep. Yum Yum!
